my first trip out
omega0684 - 14/3/09 at 10:25 PM

finally got my car back in one piece this morning after installing my new fuel presure regulator. a massive thanks to claire who, after showing off her lathe skills made me a fuel rail seal & adapter out of a solid block of ali. (then we had fish and chips from the chippy which was really nice). anyway my fuel pressure was 66psi so reduced that back down to 42 psi whish is what the R1 throttle bodies like.

then went to go out for a blat, fuel gauge not working! found out that it had a bad earth so fixed that and then off i went.

car was running very very lean due to the fuel pressure reduction so had to stop three times to get the VE table values in the right sort of area. after 20 minutes driving i managed to get the car to a drivable state, managed to get a datalog done of about 30 minutes driving so hopefully having a look at that will help tune the car a little further.

got to say i thoroughly enjoyed getting back out on the country roads for the first time in 15 odd months! i have fingers crossed for more sunshine tomorrow!

and the car didn't over heat or breakdown once!

Dont tell us you can TIG weld too Claire - if you can its got to be "pass the tissues" time and form an orderly queue for the marriage proposals!!!

bob tatt - 15/3/09 at 07:02 AM

funny this thread should come up was only saying to the wife last night its about time she learnt to weld at night school. you could possibly save me some time and money. is it just me or is the lass off salvage squad strangely attractive in a mucky hands kind of way, it might be just me though.

Nice one Omega, good start to spring! Was that high pressure just generated from using a standard injection fuel pump and the standard pressure regulator on the end of the R1's fuel line?

omega0684 - 15/3/09 at 09:38 AM

oh no what have i started! sorry claire

hey craig, i think it was a case that the fuel pump was just too powerful for the fuel rail and reg of the R1 and since the R1 reg was factory fitted and the pump wasn't off an R1 that is where is miss match occurred and that is why i bought the adjustable fuel pressure regulator. all is good now though and the car is starting to get tuned now so things can only get better i hope.

I'll get the kettle on
Just as soon as I get that noisy diff out..........

zilspeed - 15/3/09 at 01:05 PM

Claire

Maybe best that you just say you have a "significant other" at this point.

Whether you have or not, it would help to keep all the DOM (And DYM for that matter) in check.

What are you lot like...

clairetoo - 15/3/09 at 01:12 PM

Well , I do have a `significant other` - he's yellow , got a V6 under the bonnet , and keeps nagging me to go out for a drive

zilspeed - 15/3/09 at 01:14 PM

Oh FFS, now they'll be even worse...

ashg - 15/3/09 at 02:24 PM

oh man why did i move from coventry to kent again :-(

i vote that when we want to tell a female what a good day we have had working on the car, we should skip our other halfs and u2u claire lol.
