I've just sold some old motor engineering books on e-bay for 99p ! (Well at least they will be out of my way).

Trouble is that the buyer is in France and although they only weigh 5.7 Kg the post office want almost £38 to send them.

Any one know of a less expensive solution?

DPD couriers - but you may need an account - I can send about 10kg for £15.

I've used parcel drop to send things between the UK and europe and can usually give a good price for a courier, almost certainly less than 38 pounds.

Anyone else notice lots of French bidders on ebay UK now that their euro pretty much buys £1.

Guess it was a similar story when the dollar was 2 to the pound and a lot of people were buying cheap bits from the States.

Except there's no VAT, import duty etc within the EU to worry about.

Tried parcel2go it took a week for the pickup after I'd prepaid, towards the end they would not answer my phone calls.

A lot of couriers are only interested or will only give a better price if you despatch regularly and have an account.

The best thing about interparcel is the costs are up-front - you go on the website, enter the details and it gives you a list of options. Pick the one you want, and you know the price - no hassle.

Most of their carriers pick up the parcel, track its progress and record the delivery.
