I removed the mechanical fuel pump from my TR6 engine in favor of an electric one....

In place of the mechanical pump I cut a steel plate the right size to fit over the void and clamp the original gasket inplace...


When the engine gets up to temp there is a constant dribble of oil from around the plate...

Which leads me to believe that, A the gasket is not doing its job, and B, the plate is too thin and has distorted where it has been done up...

So, I can make a new thicker plate, but what material should I use for the gasket?

I have a few offcuts of normal paper type gasket material as used for cooling systems... would that do?

A cornflake packet would do or I can post you some Nebar (cork-type) Jointing if you like?

This was a normal conversion on North American V8's, the plate was usually cast aluminum about 1/4" thick with cast in fins (cooling).
Crank case pressure can get pretty high with 4" pistons flailing about at 7000 RPM in an 8 litre engine.

I can get 60PSI if I try.... Which is a lot of pressure..


The plate I fitted was only 1.2mm thick... I think a 2.5mm plate would do a better job... That and some cornflake packet might work ?

Most plates that I've seen on these are about 4 or 5mm. Thick gasket paper (cornflake pacet if you must with a smear of blue hylomar to seal.
