was alone last week when i started to here a slight tinkering coming from the from of the car had a look under the bonnet but couldn't see
anything obvious so thought nothing of it, now over the last couple of day i have noticed the tinkering is back but only occured when the road was
bumper or i drove over a pop hole, oh oh i thought suspension strut is knackered 
managed to get time to work on the car today,so i jacked the car
up and took the wheel off to have a look at the shocks, low and behold the spring has fatigued and the snapped at the base, the piece jangling about
is the size of a bull's nose ring!! 
the car is a 1998 opel corsa, so is it a case of down the scrap yard to source a new spring? would there have been any substanial damaged caused to
the shock absorber? or is a case of just replacing the entire strut?
don't know about corsas, but omegas are notorious for the back springs going. shouldn't be any damage done to the rest of the suspension i
think. at least there wasn't on my dads omega when both rears failed after less than 40k miles.
spring for a scrappy would do, but ideally both springs on that axle should be renewed with new ones

I had no experience of broken road springs until around 2 years ago.
Since then I've had to do one on SWMBOs Ibiza and two on the Golf I've just got shot of.
Apparently it's extremely common nowadays.
On an associated issue. The Audi A4 I've just bought is very slightly baggy around the front suspension. A full set of 4 springs and dampers is
cheaper than a couple of dampers and springs.
Might just do all 4 corners on this to freshen it up.

Put a pair on, they are not expensive for new standard ones. I doubt if it will have done any damage.
Cut a bit off the other one to match

I replaced both front springs on my corsa - I think they were £35 for the pair

I've just replaced both springs on a Mondeo Mk3 this weekend, and last week I had to replace part of my Xantia suspension (part that takes a jolt
over the bumps).
I would like to blame most of these failures on the increasing amount and type of speedbumps. I have no facts to back this up, but hey, I'm old
and I don't like speed bumps
