changing oven switch?
Hi all,
looking for a bit of help with an electrical issue.
I have bought a new double electric oven for the kitchen and a new gas hob with electric start to replace the old setup.
The old setup was the same so there is a 30 amp ring from the CU already.
This fed the oven and had a separate socket wired in for the hob.
I would like to change the switch too but cant find any 30 amp stuff. Only 20 or 45.
What do I do?
just use a 45 amp one, as long as the ovens together can't use more than 30amps then the switch rating being more doesn't matter
What is the new oven rated at?
Just use the 45A one, after all if the cooker circuit is fused at 30A the fuse will go before there is any damage to either the switch or the
ovens.
Alternatively, just stick with the one you've got... A single oven and 4 electric hobs (I assume the old ones were electric) would draw a lot
more than a double oven if you had them all on full-tilt.

The old hob was gas and the old oven was a double.
The new ones needs a 30 amp supply and is 5.7Kw i believe.
so pretty much a like for like.
Use a switch rated higher than the current you're going to be pulling IE 45A...
cheers.
