I brought a new DVD camcorder (well i say new, its my first
)
Can anyone recommend some video editing sofware to use?
windows xp / vista comes with movie maker as standard - it does work but it depends on your pc spec - if its a decent one should be ok
My pc would be good enough but when i had to format my pc, i could only find one windows disk and i think it must have been on there
Movie maker is pretty rubbish. Adobe Premiere is good (but not cheap if you pay for it like a good puppy). Sony's offering is very pretty but slightly ineffectual. Video Studio is in between, good if you want to do basic stuff but not so hot for fancy stuff.
The pinacle offering was pretty easy to use. Its fairly decent too. Good mix of power Vs useability.
Final Cut Pro (studio), great software, i find it very easy to use. If you have a mac.
If you have a pc then go with adobe premier.
Although it does depend on your budget.

Depends what you need to do really.
For basic cutting, cropping and encoding, I swear by vdub, fairly powerful, but not much to look at, and like
all the best tools, a barsteward to get the hang of.
Pinnacle's easy to get the hang of, if you're looking for simple edits, producing DVDs for yourself.
I use Premiere and Sony Vegas to edit my video, together with a combo of audio-editing software, depending what's required. I like
Premiere's gui, but Vegas does feel more professional to use.
Give me a yell if you could use another set of hands for filming / editing.
