Q2 scala headsets and tomtom, heads up
nitram38 - 12/4/09 at 11:54 AM

I have bought a pair of Q2 headsets so that I can speak to my passenger, wirelessly. So far so good, the bluetooth works very well.
I can even pair it to my vodaphone blackberry storm and hear calls, but the tomtom 940 is something else!
First I thought I would connect via bluetooth................but it is a no go.
Apparently tomtom rider V2 is the only tomtom that will connect via bluetooth and I am not going to pay £399 for another sat nav.
The Q2 headsets come with an Fm radio and the tomtom has an Fm transmitter so I thought sucess!.........No.
Tomtom in it's wisdom has decided to not allow voice navigation to be able to be transmitted and has removed this option in the latest firmware update 8.310.
It has something to do with a new Eu law and transmitting on fm with no sound.
My only wireless option was to buy a plug in fm transmitter and use it on the lineout of the tomtom which I have done.
More wires and power connections!

I am still looking for a hack on the internet to re-enable the Fm......unless anyone knows different?
The fm is still there but only on the mp3 player option.
Just thought I would let some of you know if you are thinking of going this route.
Maybe your brand of sat nav has the fm transmitter working, so check before you buy the Q2 headsets!

Yep Tom tom removed the wireless fm a little while ago

Macspeedy found this out when trying to get his one to work........fms crap anyway as you get flattened by a local radio station as we cross the country. most times we just set it with the sound switched off and only really take note of it at the end of the journey when nearing the destination.
Me thinks to have bertha telling me what to do every move whilst out in the seven would do my nut in
U"U macspeedy and see what he found out.

The only other option to to rollback to an earlier firmware, but this causes the latest maps to stop working.
The tomtom 940 has live traffic which I find very useful!

will it do navigation over FM at the same time as playing an MP3? if so, a nice MP3 of silence, on repeat might be a idea?

Not yet. There was some talk that tomtom may update the firmware again to do just that, but it is only talk.
