This quote caught my eye
quote:
Previously the Department for Transport (DfT) had discouraged the systems which reduce fuel use, resulting in less tax being paid to the Treasury.
But now, rather than seeing green wave systems as a "cost" to the public purse, the DfT views them as a "benefit".
its just annoying how its all about carbon emmisions, not helping us...if they really wanted to cut carbon, theyd get rid of all the excess traffic lights that we dont reeeally need....
And stop promoting that everyone buy a new car with 2 tonnes of metal and plastic in it.
The most environmentaly friendly car I have ever owned was my corsa xe which was made from two cars on their way to the scrapyard. Prevented the costs
of melting down 2 cars, manufacturing one, cost me 700 all in after selling what I didnt need and did 43mpg on a run.
(that fact it was 6.5 0-60 and 140 is an aside
)

i heard from a friend of a friend who installs all these traffic lights that the local council were tryong to cause congestion so that in the future they could introduse a congestion charge because of all the congestion !!!
This admission sound like something lifted straight out of an armchair discussion between civil servants from "Yes Minister".
I was always convinced that the lights in Oxford were programmed to cause congestion to get more people out of their cars and onto bikes.
HANG ON A MINUTE!
"Previously the Department for Transport (DfT) had discouraged the systems which reduce fuel use, resulting in less tax being paid to the
Treasury. "
Thye article doesn't say that they discouraged its use because it saved fuel. The way the article is written is quite cunning, it suggests
something but doesn't say it. So it doesn't have to be proved because the accusation isn't actually made. The writer had simply put two
fact into the same sentence, but hasn't proved that they are linked.
There could be many other reasons why the DfT discouraged the use of the 'green wave' and in any case, normally only the Treasury are
concerned with tax, other departments are not so bothered

i know of two traffic lights that turn red every time you approach them, even in the middle of the night (outside the ambulance station in morley and
at the crossroads at bardsey on wetherby road). I gave up stopping for them long ago
