Silverstone Classic Blues

I went to the classic last year and had a great time.

This year, the website did not appear until mid march which was MUCH later than last year, which made me a bit suspicious. The cost was £69 for the 3 days if booked before 1st may.

I went online to book today, and the cost was £79 with no advance booking discount and a £4.75 booking fee. I rang and asked what had happened to the advance offer, and the chap said he didn't know anything about it. I asked what the price would be on the gate, and he said that had not been determined yet!

I want to pay with a credit card as if the management company goes pop I can still get my money back, but why increase the prices like that.

Am I being over careful, or is the organisation a bit shakey? Are they just scamming to optimise their income from the tickets, and what exactly do I get for my booking fee?

I've just seen the prices for the silverstone GP.

Can't believe you can't get a sunday only ticket without getting a packge! 150 quid for a 3 day ticket or 200+ for the day is a bit OTT.

Tempted with the classic. Whats it like?

I have been to the GP and the Classic nee Coys Historic, and the classic is 10 times the event.

At the GP you are treated like cattle, battle to get to a position where you can actually see the cars not just hear them and que for 4 hours to get out afterwards.

The classic, you can go into the pits, talk to the drivers, view from grandstands at no extra cost and the whole weekend costs a third of the GP. Some amazing club stands too.

I am a bit worried that the organisers are not financially stable - hence the pratting around with the ticket prices and dubious charges.

I go most years and its always a great event with lots to see.Thinking twice this year though as the prices have gone up again probably due to its popularity.

Ditto. I was lucky enough to get hospitality to the GP a few years ago. Was really nice being able to walk around the classic car pits, look at the cars and talk to the guys there.
