Such a shame, I am currently re-reading Hi Speed Lo Cost for the umpteenth time.
Just rang my dad, he knew him many years ago in his mini racing days. Will be sadly missed by us both.
Spoke to allan a few months ago, when he sent me a set of plans for the terrapin .

'Tis a sad loss.
I've read a few of his books and just this Saturday managed to get myself an un-opened 1973 copy of High Speed Low Cost.
I especially appreciate his ability to show how you can achieve big budget results on a shoe-string (eg the famous 'string computer' 
).
He was and will remain a great source of information and inspiration, and I will build that Terrapin one day!
Always sad to hear about the loss of someone who had so much to teach us enthusiasts.
His books will long outlast him as a source of reference to many.
I echo the comments above. I randomly found "The Race and Rally Car source book" years ago and that got me started on the car building lark.
Saw Allen across a hillclimb paddock when I spectated at one during a trip to England a while ago, and now I'm sorry I didn't go over and
say Hi and thanks for the inspiration.
