MIG Welding dip
Paul (Notts) - 7/5/09 at 09:23 PM

When I am MIG welding at college I dip the gun in a can of something quite often to stop the wire sticking.

Having just bought a Clark 151 welder what do I need to but ie what’s the stuff I dip the tip in called.

Paul

Too much wine tonight and I have to go to work in the morning

can of annti splatter spray, use it on the work and squirt into the nozzle

A little something a welding instructor once told me - anti-spatter spray is mostly oil , and burning oil fumes are highly carcinogenic
So be very sparing with it !

eeek - didn't know about the splatter spray being oil!

I usually only coat the nozzle once every few uses, then let it dry / drip off + use the co2 feed to help remove excess.

Bought a huge spray bottle thingy (like a water mister) and hardly used any of it.)

yeah me too. so is that what you are suppose to do with it?

Arre you meant to spray it onto the metal you are welding?

not tired that as wouldn;t spraying what appears to be mostly water be a bad idea?
