I'm going on a flight to Ireland with my girlfriend Easyjet next friday, we're only allowed 1 piece of hold luggage but the hand luggage
size is generous enough to take all I'd need & my toilet bag (no liquids in hand luggage) can go with her stuff in the hold.
The website says I can take up to 55x40x20cm but with the handle & feet added in is about 60cm which makes it too big. How tight are they on this,
do I need a smaller case?!
i wou;d say very strict, reason being thats how they usually make their money.
did you have to pay for hold baggage? if yes, they'll use any reason to make you put more in there
airports normally have a basket type thing which is the size of bag you can take, if it doesn't fit in there...
Never had mine checked or queried both for size and weight. If you can lift it into the overhead locker and it's obviously not too much over the max allowed size it seems to be OK
I think we got the one piece of hold baggage with the two tickets, it's only a weekend break so we dont need much.
The case actually belongs to her & she got as it was within what British Airways allows & she reckons Easyjet run the same regs. I just dont
want to get there & find it wont fit in their thing that checks the size & they shaft us for far more than the case is worth to stick in in
the hold.
easyjet only allow 10kg's for hand baggage, the dimensions of the case can be found on there web site.
Just incase you want to see some pretty fast locost's in action on the emerald island, my motor club is running a hillclimb this week, approx
30mins from Belfast, just incase you happen to fall out with her indoors ;-)
I've been to thier site for info & I'm so close to being OK on the size & wondered how tight they are on it, this is their page with
the regs, scroll to section 10 for the baggage:
http://www.easyjet.com/EN/Book/regulations.html
Nothing specific about weight other than I must be able to lift it unaided into the locker.
And just where exactly is the hillclimb? We're going to be at Templepatrick not far from the International airport & I'm the one
registered for the hire car!

They have a metal frame thingy that you have to try and squeeze your handluggage into befor you board the plane. if it don't fit then your fooked!
My hand luggage has never been checked by EasyJet - if they can see that it's light and reasonably compact (v. small rucksack or grip) then they
probably won't bother.
If it looks like it's weighty, or it's a bit lardy, then it gets checked.
I think it might just be pot-luck. They have a wire-frame sizing thingy and, technically, if it doesn't fit you could be in trouble. Often they
don't bother if it looks about right.
Most of these budget airlines now charge per item and won't let you share baggage allowance ie you can put what you like in the joint bag but it
couldn't be, say, 20kg if your individual allowance was 15kg each. Also, a lot of people are getting caught out at the gate (actually it's
their own fault) having done online check-in with no hold baggage - the first time they meet any airline staff is at the gate and if the bag's
too big then you are totally at their mercy.
You might be better to take a smaller cabin bag each and the single hold bag.

If you check in online (only have hand luggage)
the security check are only interested in the security aspect and can only have one piece per person. Wife had to put handbag into small case. The
only time the airline see your bag is at departure gate. We have never had any problems. Just be sensibly regarding size.
Have just flown back from Izmir with BA and some of the hand luggage was so big and heavy it was almost impossible for it to be lifted into the
overhead lockers!

We'll definatly be using the hold luggage, I may not need so much for 3 days but she might want to take more!
Looks like it'll be worth the chance, she's sure it'll be OK but it's just something they can trip us up with if they want to be
awkward.
I just flew from Bristol to Inverness today with Easyjet and my luggage was not checked for size, have a look at their site as ISTR that if two people travel together and pay for one peice of hold luggage then the weight limit is higher so you could possibly use her bag?
