Only vaguely car-related, but I've been in the workshop most of the evening and now, as I sit at my computer, there's a nightingale singing its heart out 20 or 30 yards from the back of my house.

Very beautiful, and very soothing.

I think I'll go and hug a tree later on...

ive just come in from the garage to post a question and the gardem was full of the sounds of the spring nightlife, very cool

We had a "screaming" Owl sat on our chimney a while back, drowned out the telly, noisy bugger.

I've just moved out to the country (ish) and seem to be getting lots of Robins in my garden. Certainly makes a change from Sparrows and those scruffy looking Starlings that I used to get.

We have a bird(s) by our work that sing the first 3 seconds of this.... always good for a giggle.

Reminded me of a few things that I miss from our last place.

The sound of the owls hooting as it goes dark: we don't have any around here, I'm sad to say.

Have plenty of wildlife round here, red kites being the most impressive (circle around and swoop low over our house daily).

Had to brake to avoid hitting a young deer that was sprinting madly across the busy A road though the village this afternoon.

Robins sound a lot like that and will sing well into the night while there is no other sound going on for competition. We have a blackbird that does house and car alarm impressions in the Birch tree at the bottom of the garden, always raises a smile here. Sparrowhawk took a sparrow out there this afternoon as well and left a right mess on the lawn, beak and feathers everywhere.

We have a nest right outside our bedroom window and being woken up at 5:00am by hungry babies churping away like mad We also have house martins (I think) trying to nest in every corner of the eves, wouldn't mind but what a mess they leave crapping everywhere must get a catapult

My neighbour whistles to the birds in the tree at the back. There is 1 he has trained to whislte back and copy him.

There's a bird here who can play a canny tune on a trumpet.. well that's what she calls it anyway

There was a company who changed their hold music for a CD of birdsong. it was so popular that people would phone and ask to be put on hold so they could listen to it... (might have been the RSPB iirc)

We've got more wildlife than you can shake a stick at!

Trouble is, at 4:30 in the morning, not sure what's worse...

chickens and ducks squaking and moaning to be let out, or the bl**dy crows and magpies trying to nick their food before they are let out. Had 2 pheasants beating the living cr*p out of each other under our window this morning....where's me gun?

Can't beat living inn the countryside though

Countryside life - I wouldn't change it

Years ago I mentioned the nightingales to an old codger in the pub, who lived way out in the wild backwoods of the village.

"Bloody noisy things!" he said, "They keep me awake most of the night!"

So not everyone's in favour...

I went and stood on the back step last night - there was the nightingale, a blackbird and a robin all giving their best. Better entertainment than the offerings on the TV last night...


Regarding owls - I've just realised that I haven't heard any little owls round my house this year... I wonder where they've gone? Normally I hear them squeaking from my neighbour's radio mast at 2:00am...

I'm undecided on the things, they're fine during the evening, quite nice when you're outside

But a herd of crows at 5am? no thanks, fortunately, the ones I suffered from thought outside my window was a good place to make noise. no problems any more.

Been woken up by a blackbird at 5am for the last couple of weeks and then kept awake by a woodpecker so I'm getting a little peed off at the moment.

Most Australian native birds are more noisy rather than musical - e.g. Kookaburra

If I could find a decent link to a Sulphur Crested Cockatoo screaming it's head off I'd post that too. Had four of them sat in a tree in the backyard one Sunday afternoon squawking at each other

The only wildlife I get woken up by at the moment is my kitten who thinks it's hilarious to sit on my face at 5 in the morning.
Did used to go out with a girl a couple of years ago, she had a really high pitched voice. When I woke up I wasn't sure if it was her talking or my tinitus!

Nearest thing we get to wildlife round here at night are chucked out of the pubs would love to live in the country

In the same vein, we get a male pheasant walking round the garden most days - nicknamed 'Charlie' - flapping his wings and sounding off every 10 minutes. Impressive... but not at 11:30 at night, or 4:00 in the morning...

At least I don't get the nieghbors Peacock doing it's thing early morning any more
