Drawing-Writing on Carbon Fibre

what sort of pen do i need to write on CF, obviously pencil doesn't come out well at all, and black pen is useless, it will need to be fine tipped and obviously has to wash off?,

I take it that you want to write on cured carbon?
How fine do you need it?
As a white (they do make other colours but white would be best on black) chinagraph pencil will write on any smooth surface and the only way to remove it is with a dry cloth and just rub it off.

yeah sorry, it has a clear gel coat on it, so i'll be writing onto the gel coat

i use a chinagraph pencil, writes on most things, but not very thin

If it's to mark it prior to cutting/shaping then I always use a scribe...

When I marked out my dash I just put some masking tape on it and used a pencil.

for marking out where i was drilling/cutting mine, just a pencil straight on to it worked for me. that said, mine isn't exactly shiney anymore. was 2nd hand out a racew car, and, i think, sat in someones garden for years. a fair bit on pigeon poo on it., masking tape andd pencil, chinagraph pencil etc should do the job fine

if you're drlling, the masking tape will help stop the drill sliding about too

Same as with Bathroom or Kitchen tiles too, incidentally......... Just in case you plan to fir them to the car as well!!

All of the above, or aerospace marker (glorified tipex). Tipex will work, just be sure you have a solvent that will take it off. Masking tape and pencil is easiest, and helps when cutting/drilling CF.

one of those tipex pens from smiths i find useful, can picked off after with a finger nail

(obviously with any of these techniques, test in an inconspicuous area first to check it does whip/come off!)

Another vote for masking tape and pencil. Works well on all shiny surfaces. Also allows you to play about with shapes etc before cuttung. If you dont like the shape, just stick some more on. This method proved to be great when i had to cut out bonnet vents.
