Good job Max didn't get his way over the the most wins getting the championship.

Just goes to show how much is the driver and how much the car, Frank Williams was right it appears.

what did frank williams say??

sorry but my brain wont work today

I remember making a comment something along the lines of not having to spend a lot of money on a famous driver as it was all down to how good the car was.

Can't find the exact text on the internet sadly.

His disdain for drivers has been palpable for years. If you look very closely during any given race, you can barely make it out, but you can actually see the little tiny silver spoons coming out helmets as they go around.

When you consider what he's done for the ex-Honda team, couldn't we have Mr Brawn in place of Mr Brown?

speedyxjs - 7/6/09 at 06:08 PM

^^^ totally agree

It is a good job the gold star for wins was not used this year or the season would nearly be over

Project7 - 7/6/09 at 07:55 PM

I think the gold medal system will be horrible, I'd much rather see them award 12 points for first place, and then the rest of the places scored as per the current system, just so there is a larger incentive to win, but its not the be all and end all (as it would be with the medals). After all, the stronger fights are generally for the lower places anyway.

I've never been a massive Button fan, but its nice to see him get a bit of success this year and i hope it continues through the silverstone weekend. I'm still confident the other teams will close up during the rest of the season though.

It seems like a strange thing for Frank Williams to say, gonna do wonders for the driver morale!

Also does anyone else think the rules governing the Kers is strange? If power and time is limited, then the only advantage gained between the different systems is weight, which doesnt seem like much scope for variation? Unlimit the available power i say!

This was years ago, though I don't believe he's changed his attitude.

Whether it's right to say it the flip between best performer and middle runner (Button <-> Hamilton) in a season certainly appears to be down to the car. I don't think Button has improved that much over the winter.

I suspect most of the F1 drivers are very similar in ability/talent if you put them in identical cars.

Yeah I've got no doubts Frank said it, doesnt he have a policy of outing the driver as soon as they win the championship - or at least he did it to Hill and Villeneuve.

I think the policy is more 'when they demand a huge pay rise he tells them to p*ss off'

Peteff - 7/6/09 at 09:30 PM

I watched the race as it was raining and I couldn't get anything done outside. It was alright but why do the commentators still keep mentioning Schumacher? Things like "Schumacher would still have been flat out there" or "was later on the brakes" etc. are totally irrelevant to what the drivers are doing now. Button looks like he's enjoying the moment anyway but I felt a bit sorry for Barichello and it's good to see the Red Bull team up there.
