I have a spinal injury which is gradually deteriorating and I'm relying on crutches more often to get about these days. Not all the time, but the good days are getting shorter and the bad ones longer!

Generally, I've found kit car seats (especially GRP ones) to be pretty supportive when in situ... my problem though is getting in / out! I'm increasingly finding that the pain of contorting my lower spine / pelvis can have me on the verge of vomiting (sorry... too much information!?).

So, I'm just looking a bit further down the line to when I reach a point that Radicals and Sevenesque cars are no longer an option... are there any kits out there that are a little easier to get into and out of?

jago jeeps and beach buggies perhaps?
ok maybe not as fast as a supercharged radical....

or would a well designed roll cage help at all? i've seen caterham ones where there's a half circle in the roof, so you could sort of stand up (using the bar to raise and lower yourself?) and step out?

There is a Striker with a door on the drivers side - the guy is in a wheelchair . Sorry , dont know much more...

think MK did one where the side opened as well! worth thinking about! or you could make a lift to put you in! like those use to put people in the bath!

Come on guys think outside the box.

Put the seat on a set of rails that make it rise vertically to allow Scootz to get to a position where he can transfer on to his feet or chair and vise a versa.

The rails would be tilted to the existing rake of the seats so the base would stay flat.
Steering wheel removable so not a problem

How far down can the door go?
Instead of climbing out swing the door open, swing your legs out (turn 90 degrees) and stand up. I mean the door would have to go most of the way down the cabin but if it's doable...

you mean like bolting the seat to the rear bulkhead (instead of the floor), on sliders, and bit like a stanna stair lift?

Sorry to hear of your problems, but I wonder if something along the lines of a bath hoist attached to the roll bar would work? It must be possible to arrange something, even if a completely redesigned rollbar or cage is necessary.

Cobra with some kind of swivel arrangement on the seat?

At Stoneleigh there was a black wheel chair converted Indy on the mk stand. it had what looked like an engine hoist to lower the chap in and out of the car. Was pretty impressive

Could you not put a scissor or worm gear mechanism under the seat so it can raise the seat right above the upper rails for you to sit on then lower down with you sitting in it.

Thanks for the replies guys... some food for thought there! I also saw the modified 7 at Stoneleigh... if the owners on here, would love to have a chat.

Pretty miserable week... a bunch of us go to the F1 GP every year. Tickets paid and my contribution to the motorhome / Whittlebury camp site made. Had to make the hard decision (it was actually very east, but you know what I mean) to cancel. £500 down the drain!

Couldn't care less about the money - just gutted that I'll be missing my yearly 'highlight'!
