luke - 18/6/09 at 11:11 AM

Ive just gone and impulse bought a 1.8 zetec! oops!

i should really be kept away from ebay!

looks like the x-flow will have to be sold!

Good choice

We have a replacement ready to go in, replacing the standard 1.8 with a 130ps one.

It's been the best mod to date changing from xflow to Zetec.

Just got our sump this morning from Deneo on here, so if the weather's crap this weekend at least we have something to do

You never know your luck

We sold our knackered[1] 1.6 crossflow on ebay and got £200 for it
Bloke drove a 300 mile round trip to collect too, weird...

[1] Sold quite clearly as knackered and blowing a blue smokescreen.

well its on here for time been, if doesnt go ill ebay it, already making a huge loss on it trying to not outprice myself!

this is the zetec http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=200351611293

was a last minute bid so didnt get chance to ask which version.

if it's not already rs1800 spec you could give it an extra bit of spice

http://www.mwstewart.co.uk/cars/mk3xr2iseries2zetec/

2.0 cams, 2.0 ecu, 2.0 throttle bodies & airflow sensor, apparently will bring it up to the 130 level apparently the lower 105 engine doesn't have "under piston oil jets" but the 115 (xr2) and rs do. This is the sort of thing I'm looking into at the moment (for way off in the future after IVA during a dark winter so I can drop a wicked zetec motor in where the cvh will have been)

to be honest, im not looking for anything stupidly powerful, i think the stock 1.8 on some nice carbs will be enough to squeeze the crap out of me!

im quite looking forward to getting it! looks like its in decent knick and probably wont need much work on it!

anything you recommend i check over or change? or just give it a good service?

I sold a complete 1.8 Zetec on here for £40 a few months ago. It was from a Fiesta XR2i, someone was looking for a cylinder head.

in all honesty I'm still learning the basics about the engine side of things and the only thing I've done to my zetec is pop the cylinder head cover off to have a look and see what condition the cams are in...

the burton power website has a bit of background info on the Zetec-E:
http://www.burtonpower.com/technical_1/zetec_e.aspx

Other things I've heard mentioned about the zetec-e's was something to do with the valves sticking if they weren't rev'd hard every now and again (something like under 6k revs) - can't seem to find the link to where I read that but I know it's the reason why the later zetec-se changed to mechanical lifters instead of hydraulics (or the other way round? something along those lines anywho)

a few other interesting links I've found on my researching travels:

I believe the 1970s TVR 1600M had a crossflow engine in it..

So, if your engine is "tuned" and in good nick... try selling it to one of the old classic TVR lads!

luke - 18/6/09 at 04:18 PM

well just been and collected it and its unbelieveably clean!

the guy said hes had it sat in his garage for two years, was originally going to put into his caterham but ended up selling. so im thinking a good oil change and clean and it should be ok. will do the timing belt too.
ill get some pics and try to upload in a bit once we have it out of the boot.

I have an 115bhp version in my Quantum Extreme.
With a pair of Piper fast road cams, Omex ECU and single plenum fitted with RS2000 injectors.
I am getting 160bhp @6906rpm & 126.3lbft torque
