I have a Golf V5 which i now have to use to get to work. I got just 100 yards from work and heard an almighty bang. First thought was a blow out but
no, then i noticed an ever so slight lean to the near side and on inspection i found a two thirds of a diameter piece of coil caught up around the
rest.
To drive the car you would hardly notice, i have lost ten to fifteen millimeters of ride height.
So what should i do.
1 Buy two new coils for the front
2 Take the off side one out and trim to suit
3 just ignore it because its not that bad
4 Anything else
Brad.
I'd go for option 1 myself
Fit a pair, incomplete springs are an MOT failure
Option 1 im afraid
I must admit that when parking i do get the odd twang as if the coil is turning in it's mounts.
Has anyone any coil clamps i could borrow, or a locost way of re fitting them.
I have a set but am probably too far away. Halfrauds do some for about 20 quid
Coil springs have become a major mot failure! on older cars its almost unheard of. done a first mot on a few cars with broken springs!! get it sorted
as the broken part could damage the tyres sidewall!! change as a pair also. unless your too tight!
Rob
Brad fit 2 springs
for know try and get the small broken part of it may come loose and stab a tyre

i had that happen to me about 6 weeks ago, just heard this rattling coming from the OSF wheel, part of the spring had rusted and snapped.
like most have said, just by two new front springs, only took an hour to replace mine. cost £30 new off ebay
I had this happen twice in a month on the Sportka I had - first one side then the other. Turned out Ford issued a TSB shortly afterwards.
I'd replace both with some decent Eibachs. You could probably get a lowered set of 4 for the price of some oems...
Francis.
My 05 plate corsa fail it MOT last week with a broken spring! Couldnt believe it at it has only done 39k. Didnt feel it at all!!

Two new springs now fitted and wow it makes a difference.
This is all too common now a speed humps and potholes get bigger and deeper.
My friend who fixes ambulances noticed a rise in broken spring jobs after they stuck in the hundred humps in the main roads.
get on your local vag forum and get some for a tenner.
We just threw a set away
Option 2!
I also find slashing other tyres to match punctured ones works well
