Had to visit a customer in Oldham yesterday so took the opportunity of a run over Snake Pass back to Sheffield and the M1 on the way home.
Yes there were roadworks and traffic and yes I was in a lumbering great Passat, but even so it is such a good road.
Last time I drove it in my old Leon Cupra and followed a pack of bikers the whole way - for a few brief moments (in the words of Richard Hammond) I
was a driving god

There are plenty of road like that up here. The cairngorm national park has some great drives and Speyside has some too, you can drive 30 miles from
my hoose and pass 10 distilleries (Glenfiddich, MaCallan, etc). Best of all, there is no traffic. Just need a sunny day..........

the roads past Tain up to the top of Scotland are well twisty and very quiet (lot of steep cliffs though). Last time I was up it was in the Falcon and
what a laugh drifting round every corner, utterly brilliant fun 
The road round Loch Ness is also greatfun but alot more dangerous, especially if you get it wrong, i.e. off the cliff side into the Loch oop 
Come to think of it Scotland has heaps of really fun roads

A3072 (Tiverton to Crediton), in Devon. Every type of corner imaginable on one section of road. An awesome road, that requires concentration!
The B road that runs south along the Cornish coast from St Ives to Cape Cornwall.
Best on a Sunny evening at about 7-8pm, when the sun is low over the sea... Just stunning scenery and an nice twisty road.

I love the M25, can get a nice suntan providing I am not stopped under a bridge, and perfect place to test the strength of the measuring strap is on the blood pressure meter!
Penrith to Alston over Hartside. Stop at the cafe on the top for a brew. Watch out for the lunatic bikers though.
if you get chance, stop in at the snake pass in for a roast dinner
I was group leader on a rideout I did for the bike forums I'm on, and
this is the route I put together. From point A to C is probably the most thrilling bit of roads in the north of
england (especially from B to C).
If any of you get chance, go try the route - it's immense!

Snake pass is a awesome road. As are many of those around that area. I came over there on a cold rainy winter sunday evening after a 16 hour day in a empty sprinter van. Scary as.....

Yes snake pass rules, last time I went over there I managed to really anger someone in a Scooby by passing them in a diesel 106, and they
couldn't keep up because I knew the road and they didn't
Well they couldn't keep up until it opened up and for some reason he looked smug that I was no match for a car 4 times more powerful...
