I know it's pretty ugly-looking

omega0684 - 25/6/09 at 06:39 PM

^^^ have to agree, that does look a bit shabby!

MakeEverything - 25/6/09 at 06:42 PM

I think hes done a good job of putting Sprite (MG Midget) fibreglass panels on a westie chassis....

I was looking at something similar, but not with the Midget bodywork.

I like it!

I bet it's surprised a few in its time.

Mike

Edited to say, perhaps even the DVLA, who think it's red and has a 1275cc engine!

It was in the PPC mag a few months back.

Another SVA/IVA dodger, police can have dodgy cars like that crushed if the MOT man puts a 'dodgy looking' flag into the computer.

I am sure it said it was a westi chassie with a big lump of fiberglass stuck on top ?

So, if it is a Westie, then why is the date of manufacture down as 1968? He states in the advert that it was built 5 years ago?

And it's registered as an Austin Healey rather than a Westie?

That puts it firmly in SVA territory (IMHO). It's either a Westie with a different bodykit, or it's an Austin Healey which has changed colour, had a new engine and a new chassis, in which case it should have an inspection?

As Mike says it ain't a 1968 Austin Healey, it's a chopped up westie chassis and some GRP panels. A fine idea and probably d*mn quick but not a tax exempt classic.

He could be ignorant of the laws regarding SVA/IVA so maybe I was a little judgemental with the term 'dodger', but that doesn't mean his car is legal. How would you, as a new owner, feel if you bought it and then plod put it in the crusher.

Does he mean handcuffs?

Hi

Dose the advert say anywhere it is for road use. From what i remeber when i did a suspension setup on it it was a pure trackday car.

Cheers Matt

Nope, you are right Matt. However putting the reg no that is displayed on the car into the DVLA website, brings up an Austin Healey, Red, with a 1275cc engine. And it's currently taxed (well tax free).

If it is a trackday only car, why bother with the plates / tax disc?

I'm not having a dig at the guy / car. I really like it as a concept. Nice 200 bhp engine, decent drivetrain / suspension and brakes and a nice looking, classic body. I'd be seriously tempted, which is why I started doing some background checks into it.

How do doors work with a westy chassis?
