looking for 205/50R16 ZR .... but not seeing brands I know e.g.

falken, kumho, enduro, kenda, wanli, hero, event, nankang, nexen, toyo, maxxis


some IK have heard of, others not.

which brands to avoid and which are recommended?

wouldn't touch nankang. good in the dry, hopeless in the damp on my bmw.

I use Pirreli P Zero Rosso's on my IS200. Had a few sets and seem to be good in all weathers. Came top in an Auto Express as well. But not cheap. Mine are 225/40r18, and they come in about 120 per corner. But Im sure Pirreli do cheaper ones, and on 16s should be cheaper again.

My gf's got Continental Contisports on her Fiesta, and they stick like the preoverbial. They were 16s and I think they're about 100 if I remember.

Unfortunately tyres are one of those things where you get what you pay for, and theres usually a reason why car manufactures chose the ones they do.

Its easy to forget that with all the abs, trc and stuff, that the only thing keeping you the road are the tyres. Thats why I don't mind paying good money for them.

I second the problems with nankang. Had my car properly sideways with half throttle in the rain plenty of times before i went wider (10" wheels and better tyres (cant remember the name but they are korean ).
Not so much fun tyring to hold on to a 2 ton beast when the tyres have no grip

thx of the link - Kumho ku31 get 4/5 mark, as good as pirelli and better than the avons I have fitted at the mo', cheap too.

not sure how relaible that site is as most tyres get 4/5 anywys,

just need to ring round to see what price is locla, then fitting to see if £ 94 for a pair is good deal or not.
