I have a Qosmio laptop with quad video processor, but it cannot process the highest definition video from my Sanyo HD1010 camcorder when editing.
Laptop has 2.26ghz Intel Duo chip, 4gb ram, toshiba quad processor video card
Any idea how I can edit my video either software or hardware wise?

as much as i hate to say it, ^ he's probably right. how does your camera record? is it onto disc? memeory card?
a bit outdated now, but my brother had a digital 8 camera, recorded onto tape, and with firewire, you did the editing on the computer in low quality,
and then the pc went back to the tape after to recall all the bits it needed in good quality using firewire to fast forward/rewind/record etc.
used a recording software by pinnacle too. can't remember what it was called. basically, i doubt windows movie maker is up to the job if thats
what you're using, but i couldn't say for def
can yours do anything like that?
I've used several programs, pinnicle 12, vegas 8.0, magix.
None of them handle the highest definition.
My camcorder records onto a 16gb SD card.
It will record if I reduce the quality.
Define "can't handle"
Premiere can handle HD. If you have a slow processor it'll just take more time.... It's likely a software problem...

Although oodles of RAM (12Gb?) might be useful.

The editing software will process if using normal 1080.
Basically the processing is so slow that the picture freezes.
If I just playback the high def un-cut video, it will play at the highest rate without a problem.
It is just while editing that the problem happens.
Any video processing you do will be constrained by the CPU, so you probably want a quad core for best performance, that said if you have a newer
NVIDIA gfx card you can offload the processing to that which is many many times faster than what the cpu is capable of and thats only if you software
supports NVIDIA CUDA, something like This
You wont need much more than 4gb, infact unless you have a 64 bit OS, you can only use 3.2gb of it

I found a disc in my camcorder box with Nero essentials which will edit mpeg-4. Although slow and jerky while processing the video, it will produce a
good dvd.
I've also realised that in order to take advantage of the highest def, I need a blu-ray player......
I produced a blu-ray disc, but can't play it to check if it too is ok. I must find someone with a PS3
