After asking on Pistonheads and getting recomendations for veeeery expensive tents...


What is a good 2 man lightweight(ish) tent for 2-3 season use in the UK? Or summer in the alps...

The smaller it is the better, but I dont want it to be stupidly fragile!

I have a halfords 2 man deluxe one (which is actually a 3 man). Cost about £30, use it for all the shows and its nicely made. Plenty of room inside for plus all your stuff.

Packs down into a bag about 18"long by about 4" diameter so it fits in the GTS boot too

As above - i'd say a 3 man tent is more suitable for 2 people (unless its simply for sleeping). Mine is a 3 man dome with small porch and fits a double airbed inside with about 2ft spare at the side for bags etc. Bought mine from the local branch of Millets for about £80 - would have to dig it out of the garage for make and i'm at work

I've got one of these. Packs up small and it's light. It stood up well in the gale that destroyed a lot of stuff at Newark last year. They do a lighter version as well and a 2 types of a 3man version.
Bit tight in a 2 man for 2 people though as said.

I've had vango tents for a long time now and they've all take years of abuse

not as light as the Hilleberg's and Teranova's - but alot cheaper
and there are normally a few deals going if you shop around

Personally I'd go for a 1 man, 1 woman tent Or a 1 man, 2 women tent

I only really need a 1 man... but opted for a 2 man for a bit of space... and just incase I have a "friend with special pirilvages" who comes allong

get along to a Millets or a camping store and have a look, you can't beat actually seeing them to make a decision.

I have a 4 man Sunncamp dome, it cost about £100 about 8 years ago and it folds down really small, its light, well built. Its out lasted a mates £30 Halfords one. Its the old story of you get what you pay for. Personally I would get the best you can afford when it comes to tents.

I haven't camped for a few years now but I always used to carry a polythene sheet cut to slightly bigger than the groundsheet to put underneath in order to protect it.

The light weight groundsheet materials are the first to wear out. so you can make your tent last longer this way. Also it's a lot cleaner when you put it away.
