Cycling masterclass!

Completely off topic but worth a watch.
Yellow jersey wearer has punctured at the top of a climb and is trying to get back to the lead group. 2 square inches of rubber on the road and a layer of lycra for protection.

he looks like a moto gp rider going through some of those bends, its a shame some of the cars were holding him up!

and the comments say he was travelling at 80/90 kmph at some points

Scary bends like that on skinny whels. Did the Trafford Park to Blackpool ride today and it went right through Haigh Hall in Wigan and the road was downhill and full of crap and bits of twig. Lad in front of my brother turned the corner and the wheel went from under him. Corned beef arse!

Driving in the race convoy isn't easy. You have to watch the road, stay close to the car in front (too close) so as to keep the convoy as compact as possible, watch for riders coming back to the group and as far as possible give them the line into the corners. With riders around you, you avoid braking into the corners, but accelerate fairly slowly out of them. There's an unwriten rule among the team managers to help all riders to get back to the bunch if they've crashed or punctured, which means letting them slipstream the cars. I've had riders rubbing the sponsors names off the bumper at 50+mph with thier front wheels! I've done a few moderatly big races and it's the hardest driving I've done.

'Grunpy, Haigh Hall is lethal; Greasy, dark and twisty and made worse by some of the riding standards. It was worse before they put the straw bale chicanes in; Bodies everywhere!
Did you just ride one way? I was supposed to do it with a couple of mates but opted for a more scenic ride through Cheshire instead.

Yep I just rode the one way. I've not ridden for a bit and just got back from 5 countries in 5 days around Europe that were just pure booze filled. Got to make these things a bit of a challenge eh.
Yes them chicanes were a bit wierd but there were no straw bails just big plastic roadwork barriers. Out of order really being as we weren't told about this bit and people have 3 grand bikes underneath their jacksies.

Hmmm, on a similar note do trackday marshalls warn you if there's a slippy bit on the track?
