Modified car insurance....
flak monkey - 13/7/09 at 05:35 PM

Any recommendations?

Looking for modified car insurance for the Leon as its had a stage 1 map loaded in. Not bothered about the other mods being covered (tinted windows, short shifter etc) as they are only cosmetic.

Tried Flux, who quoted nearly £900

Greenlight quoted the same

FJ wont do anyone under 25

Direct Line (who the mini is with) wont cover modded cars for people under 25 (annoying as I am 25 in Nov...

I pay £650 for the mini at the moment, which aint bad for a group 17 car at 24 and with no NCB.... Was hoping to stay with direct line as they are the cheapest by a long way, until i mention its modded and they hang up

Anyway, your recommendations please....

Cheers,
David

Getting my modded cupra r (04) insured with greenlight next week as best i could get at £797, without the mods(all removable) elephant were the best at £650 but £880 with. Flux wanted £1150!!! im 23 with 3 ncd doing 6k a year and leave it on the drive. try elephant with a relative on my mum took it down to that price by £200!

Try a-plan too.

Then buy a copy of "lax power" magazine, and ring the companies in the back of it. I had my skyline in sired for £750 when I was 23, but I did have ncd.

vauxhall 1.9 cdti (jdt) with 888 remap @ 196 bhp on the rollers

£260 inc with norwich union, putting Amy on the insurance made it cheaper ?

Flak... surely its not your choice to decide what the insurance company cover? If you crash a car with non declared mods inside, cant the company simply refuse to pay out completely?

I wouldnt even bother decalring a map... they wont spot that if you total the car, but they will spot the cosmetic mods...

Its a reall bugger... I want to get a seat ibiza cupra, but they are all modified badly.... so that means I simply cant get insurance! (A standard one si only abott £700 to insure!

I know the map doesnt throw anything up on VAGCOM if you scan it, so no-one is to know anyway - but then again I would rather declare it....

Some of the mods are coming off (HID lights for a start) and some are staying (short shift, tinted rear windows and the map). Looking through the lists of mods on a site like elephant gives you an idea of what they want to know. I thought that it was a case the cosmetic mods dont matter as they dont affect performance, but if you dont delcare them they wouldnt replace any of them?

There are plenty of untampered Ibizas out there. My sisters boyfriend has a blue one, which has been tweaked though, and when it was on the rollers at Jabba a few weeks back it was over 240bhp, which is mad in a little hatch!

Interestingly elephant quoted me about £750 once I added my mum on as a named driver. LOL

With all the mods declared too!

Give Gary Moulson a call on 0800 542 2141
(www.keithmichaels.co.uk). He does some
good deals for a lot of the local scooby
club members. Covers hot hatches etc too.
Not always easy to get hold of him, but
usually worthwhile

True, and also declare your insurance invalid..

How the hell did you get a Mini to group 17?

DanP - 13/7/09 at 11:17 PM

have you tried sureterm? I think they quote for modified cars.

They do some cheap quotes but watch out for their cancellation charges if you don't intend to keep the car for a whole year. They gave me quote of 380 quid to insure my old 5.7L Corvette, but are trying to keep 60% of the premium even tho I only had it 3 months!

I must admit when it comes to modifications I've found ins companies pretty good, and might only charge an extra tenner or so a year for each mod which is a lot cheaper than having your insurance voided if you have make a claim.

I insured my RS4 (530BHP) with Greenlight for £650 per year with all modes (2 pages) declared. The advantage of the Greenlight policy is they will replace like with like and they include discounted track day cover. Noel Dazely are the other company to look at.
