Problem!!!! She wants a Melos!!
designer - 17/7/09 at 02:38 PM

My girlfriend was in the Uk last week and saw a red Dutton Melos. Now she wants one!!

Any ideas (how to talk her out of it)? Anybody got one tucked away, know someone with one?

Don't be ashamed to talk about a Melos, after all nobody liked ABBA but they still sold millions.

Mr Whippy - 17/7/09 at 02:44 PM

but it tis such a thing of beauty...............................................not!

macspeedy - 17/7/09 at 02:47 PM

she needs to go to spec savers

speedyxjs - 17/7/09 at 02:52 PM

They're not that bad. I wouldnt buy one but i cant imagine it would take much work to improve the looks.

scudderfish - 17/7/09 at 02:55 PM

kj - 17/7/09 at 03:13 PM

If you've had her reg'd in your name for more than 12 month's and she's over 10 years old, she's worth £2000 towards a new model

jonno - 17/7/09 at 03:30 PM

They can look good and go well with some work.. There are some tidy ones out there

jpindy3 - 17/7/09 at 03:35 PM

Time for a new girlfriend clearly - She has no taste!!

speedyxjs - 17/7/09 at 04:01 PM

You can send her my way if you like, we seem to have the same tastes

Benzine - 17/7/09 at 04:04 PM

To quote my girlfriend just now, having shown her the pic in the thread "hehe, that's quite cute!"

iank - 17/7/09 at 04:25 PM

I think a girlfriend/wife wanting a kit for herself is pretty cool. Better than aspiring to some tintop shopping trolley.

Maybe try pointing her at a Marlin, easier to get and a better car IMO.

I like this one:

The name might suit you gf too

scudderfish - 17/7/09 at 05:11 PM

Now we've seen the car, how about a few photos of the g/f?. We've got nothing to work on as if it is worthwhile to get a Melos.

myke pocock - 17/7/09 at 05:20 PM

If I remember correctly, she's got quite a sexy a*se.

Thats the Melos, not the girlfriend. Havnt met her yet!!!

westf27 - 17/7/09 at 06:00 PM

Surrey Dave - 17/7/09 at 06:11 PM

I have owned a Dutton Melos, (nice little red one!), a Dutton 'B'type and a Phaeton Mk2.

Cheap good fun, the kit market was not the same back then.

GP Buggies, Mini Marcos, Jago Jeep. Sylva Leader?

steve m - 17/7/09 at 07:05 PM

yellow melos - 17/7/09 at 07:43 PM

Right Peteff... that sounds like a diss.....

your first in the back

Peteff - 17/7/09 at 07:50 PM

I'll have to remember to bring my teeth

coozer - 17/7/09 at 08:22 PM

Its a kit car so whats so wrong? This one looked very good at Newark.

Good way of keeping a Marina going IMO.

coozer - 17/7/09 at 08:23 PM

Oooops! wrong car but still better, show her that one and tell her its 100% better!

Steve

Dont worry Peteff - so long as he hits the brakes as soon as he can, the blood all over the place should mean nobody recognises you in the Melos!!

yellow melos - 17/7/09 at 09:35 PM

well, thats another one going in the back...... at this rate i may need to make the back bigger ... get more people in

Ninehigh - 17/7/09 at 10:21 PM

Don't see anything wrong with it, she could want a Clio you know. I've seen worse posted on this site too...

splitrivet - 17/7/09 at 10:26 PM

I like the Melos, but there again I like ear wax!!!
Cheers,
bob

I'm paying and a Melos must be cheaper than a Marlin.

Maybe if I get her to dye her hair blonde she would look Ok in a red one!!

iank - 18/7/09 at 03:33 PM

Maybe but you'll get that back if/when you sell again. Two up on the owners club at the moment, One that sounds in very good condition for £2750 one that probably needs a bit of TLC for £800 but is claimed in good condition.
