These wont be making their way onto my blog because they havent come out well, but thought maybe, possibly people might be interested in an update:

LHS snazzy mount

RHS snazzy mount

After cutting out a chassis rail

Trialing the pedal box

my first ever fibreglassing attempt (ugly but functional)

Will be replacing this with some snazzy CF but its not top of the purchasing list..

Nice work

what radiator is that?

you engine is very very close to the engine bay back panel isn't it

don't forget to put a panel across the pedal box whole otherwise your feet get VERY HOT VERY QUICKLY! mine still do and i have a panel there too!

you running sierra LSD or english axle?

looks very tidy mate, keep up the good work

I believe its the high performance dax one, got it with the part build though so cant be certain. It's definitely nice and big

looks like mk 2 escort but with top filler blocked off.

cd.thomson - 27/7/09 at 09:32 AM

hmm yes its about a cm away from the rear engine bay chassis rail. The mounts are firm as anything though, so fingers crossed and no racing over speed bumps

Its a 3.62 sierra LSD.

I've got some checker plate, itll be difficult to put a box over it though because the accelerator pedal is on the outside of the mounting brackets as shown in the 3rd picture.

very nice

Just a thought Alex, the inlet is on the drivers side, so it shouldnt be too important to seal that off should it?

Thanks for the nice comments boys.

oh yeah, you might be alright then, but my feet get very toasty on long runs it can get a little unbearable, but i have fitted exhaust wrap since i last went out so it shouldn't be that bad now i hope,

with regards to the accelerator pedal, you have to cut a hole in the little right angled aliminium piece on the side to fit it and you also have to cut two rectangular holes for the brake and clutch pedals in the top cover

blakep82 - 27/7/09 at 11:34 AM

can't wait to find out what my exhaust down the tunnel will be like lol

exhaust is out the passenger side, so shouldn't be toooooo much of a problem. any passengers will just have to move their feet if they complain they're too hot

Should have seen it before the dettol surface cleaner and 4 cloths I went through to clean it up for those piccies .

gearbox oil + fibreglass dust = black paste over everything!

omega0684 - 27/7/09 at 11:50 AM

you wait till you start trimming with the dremel on the fibreglass, your concentrating that hard not to go wrong you dont notice the car getting covered in dust! you look up and think, ooooo has it been snowing?

blakep82 - 27/7/09 at 02:16 PM

lol i had to gring a fair bit of filler out of a 2nd hand panel i got. the garden looked like an explosion in columbia

Danozeman - 27/7/09 at 03:55 PM

Looks good mate.

You say you cut a chassis rail out?? You would need to put it in there somewhere again if it was the top bit.

cd.thomson - 27/7/09 at 04:00 PM

if you compare the second and third photos you can see the tube i chopped, its the round one below the clutch cable.

I can't see a way of replacing it and it doesnt seem to provide any direct support for anything structural.

The dax is know for being over engineered but if you can see a way to replace it (and think its necessary) then give me a shout

Snazzy!
