meant to go and have a look at it today, but haven't yet...
on my 328, the steering wheel gets REAL shakey about 60mph, and sort of goes away at 80mph, which is really annoying. its so bad the wheel is sort of
uncomfortable to hold. the tracking was done about 2 months ago, and MOT less than a month ago.
you can only feel the shake through the steering, but not through the rest of the car, and as soon as you steer into a corner, you don't feel it
through the steering anymore, it only does it when going straight ahead. braking doesn't make any difference
any ideas?
Wheel balancing - weight fallen off?
Thats wheel balance.
loose wheel nuts = wheel wobble = 3 wheels on my wagon but im still roling
ah, could be. i'll need to check that out. i did have new tyres on the front fairly recently. but wouldn't i still get that through the steering (and the rest of the car) when i steer into a corner at 60?
i'll check the wheel bolts tomorrow :O they've got little covers over them, so i can't lose them, but they might be loose.
if its balance, is it likely to be a front or back wheel?
Front!
Check for water in the tyre as i have had the same thing, viberation comes in at 60, water in garage air line when they fitted 2 new tyres.
The tyre fitter did admit in the end that he had a hell of a job balacing them.

To throw another suggestion into the mix...
The E36 316 used to get very shakey steering at roughly the same speeds, then went away, then returned, then went away etc etc. The front nearside
caliper was sticking on slightly, but strangely wasn't pulling to any side as I expected. When I tried to find out what was wrong, it seemed to
be quite common for E36s.
It got so bad once that I pulled over only to see the brake disc glowing bright red
like I had just gone into Mulsanne Corner.
Most likely cause as already mentioned is wheel balance, on one or both front wheels.
I have also had it happen when a brake is sticking on when I had my MR2 as well.
Wharped brake disc...?
