My names Matt, i live in Surrey nr. the lovely Heathow airport.
I've noticed (or have been extremely unobservant) that you don't have a 'just join' or a 'newbie' subforum....so i do
apologies if this isn't the norm....but its always polite to introduce yourself...thats what i say!
Im 20 years old, and after doing to usual playing around with the hatch backs i've decided that infact....its not quite what im after out of the
automotive world.
My last project was to turbo charge a little Peugeot 106. I learnt alot about how engines work...and how the internals of the car works...but after a
while i came to my senses and decided that spending £7k on a french car was probably a little to much...no matter how many ponies it would have been
pushing!
More importantly than any of the above...i also learnt that i get just as much, iv not more enjoyment in actually knowing that 'i made that with
me own 'ands'. Which...as you might be wondering...is why im on here.
I really get a kick out of understanding just why that little bolt is there...and what torque setting it should be set to...and what all those little
boxes do hiding under the dash.
I've join here mainly just to learn more about the kit car scene...as im sure its going to be a little different than any other car community
i've been involved in. And i hope...after a holiday to Australia after December....to actually jump in and have a go at building my own kit car,
after much info gathering of course.
I've been researching the MK Indys, and they look like a fantastic and an affordable option perhaps.
Anyway...let the learning commence

If there's one thing I've discovered here, is that there isn't quite a 'normal'
There's certainly a wealth of knowledge here, be it for cars or just about anything else!!

you will find all you need to know on this site,I did.
I have an MK Indy and its a great car easy to build and fantastic to drive but then so are most of the 7 kits.

How do Matt. First off are you qualified to say 'ands' as your not a Northerner and haven't suffered the same hardships as us up here
Anyhow, to business. A brief overview of the common stuff:
1)Scratch build : as mine, takes forever regardless of your plans and you have to keep stripping things to weld on an extra tab or whatever but
enormously satisfying at the end. See Fozzies buils for attention to detail, excellent build
2)MK: Won't self center, rear panel fit is crap but excellent back up, scene and support from other owners
3)GTS: Great quality but he just doesn't deliver
4)Luego: IMHO, quality a little dubious and delivery issues but he sells taller bodywork which is handy if you're fitting a tall engine
i.e. zx9
5) MAC: I don't know too much off but I like their Worx kit
6)MNR: Very stylish with the new front nose, actively making an effort to develop things and probably the one I'd choose if I was to build again
(which I wouldn't due to IVA!
7)Tiger: Bonnet doesn't fit and the company seemed reluctant to change when I spoke a couple of years back. BEC was a bad word.
8)Haynes: The new Locost
All in my opinion and experiences.

Welcome fella, indeed there is alot of info here so make the search function your friend, as for Australia, don't bother you'll need every
penny you can muster when you get that bug and need shiny things, unless of course you aint paying then have a great time

Welcome to the site, you will find the replies and info on hear invaluable when building your car. I have built a Robin Hood and I am currently awaiting the DVLA to register my MK Indy. Have a good look about before you decide what to buy, read the mags and above all go to a kit car show to see the cars and talk to the club members and manufactures. I would certainly recommend the MK. All the best Barry

if you need info about anything at all ask away, there is always someone in the know on here
oh and buy an indy

We can all give you a list of kits and regurgitate the last problems we heard of with that supplier or kit but a lot of it is either "chinese whispers" or out of date. Just have a look at some of the kits available and draw up a shortlist based on looks and budget then ask some specific questions of owners on here. You will normally get a ride out offered but you also need to get to the respective factory to try the demonstrators.

My quick low down was written after a long day on the broon ale and was a little tongue in cheek, as in these are the most likely common answers found
here but some are from personal experience.
The Luego one was personal and it was the current owner Ben. You wait until you get awoken from bed by a phone call that has no introduction just a
"what the hell are you playing at?" The first set of bodywork was thin and broken when it arrived and the second set took forever and a day
and when it came was thicker but too thick in places requiring loads of filing and the rear panel wasn't square and needed relief cuts and
pulling apart. The damaged goods weren't collected for weeks and weeks and were ready to go in the bin! At the moment and in my opinion I would
level them with GTS with whom I have suffered with delivery though not quality.
