Slightly OT - Respray

How much would a decent respray cost on a mondeo size car if i stripped it down, removed and refitted the opening parts after paint and repaired any rust/damage myself?

Varies a lot

There’s a guy behind me that would charge £400 for that, but it very much depends on the kind of paint used. He uses water based with a Lacquer over the top.

Not long ago I also got quoted £1200 for 4 wings, bonnet and roof for the Falcon in ford roso red from a big car repair shop. Needless to say they never got the job.

If the cars just really needing a tidy up, then personally I’d go over the car with T-cut, then just use spray cans rather than do the whole car. It only takes two cans per door and 3 for a bonnet. If you bought them in bulk from an online paint supplier they give you a discount.

I think you'd struggle to find many bodyshops that would let you do the prep.

If there is a problem with the finish, they'll always blame your bad prep, while you'll blame their poor spraying.

i did a mates corsa bonnet. only actually cost about £15 in paint, wet and dry etc.
if you consider that, its the cost of labour that varies so much. how good a job do you want/need?

There was a shop round here that would blow a car over for £200 if you did all the work and supplied the paint. He just masked it and painted it and didn't make a bad job. He's retired now though but a lot of the forecourts round here used him.
