im after buying a on board camera kit to fit onto my rollbar,anyone know were i can get one from and which ones are good,i dont want to spend silly money though.

Top quality equiptment, with good, helpful, knowledgeable staff.

Do not get a CMOS camera, these are only suited to CCTV, you need to spend here.

I searched for an MP4 player that included AV in, a ministry of sound one fitted the bill, picture is okay on PC but rubbish on big television. This is the limitation of the recorder.

Get a good camera in the first instance is my advice, spend more on the recorder at a later stage.

Alternative is get the best standard digital camera and just strap this to the roll cage, a bit ugly but just as effective.

CCD's are so cheap nowadays it's unlikely you'll be looking at CMOS chips. The advantage of CMOS, and where they may be sutible for your aplication is there lower power consumption.
Most similar cameras use very similar chips, giving similar picture quality.

For best value one of the all in one camera recorders is a good bet, it just depends on you budget.

Look at these guys. Got my bullet from them to use when skiing at first. They do all sorts of packages and I am using one of their ski packages. To convert it to car use all I am going to do is get a variable gain mic, so you don't get that awful wind/mic distort that most people have.

I use one of these - £21 from Hong Kong via eBay! You could mount it to your rollbar using jubilee clips, or to your bodywork using rubber suction cups and P-clips like the DogCam system uses.

Oh, and to get rid of the wind noise problem I've mounted a separate microphone just behind the windscreen. It's only a small condenser type with a tiny amplifier to push the output up to line level and to smooth out the power supply, but it works like a charm!
