What does everyone (anyone!) think of the 'Build Your Own Tiger Avon' book?

Got mine today. It's pretty comprehensive, and the photo quality's good. Similar to the Champion book in it's description of chassis, wishbone and bodywork construction. With sections on SVA compliance too, I think it's worth the dosh.

What say you?

They've been dispatched by the publishers, so you should get it any day now. Hopefully yours arrived in this morning's post!

Steve couldn't have been more helpful; phoned three times to apologise for Volece's delay, sent it out the day he got it himself and it was cheaper than anywhere else to boot!

there is a chapter on bike engines, but the chassis and w/bone chapter is very good. more imfo and better drawings than rons. it was ABOUT 20 QUID

Hmm... that wouldn't be difficult though would it?
Ron's book gets full marks for inspirational and motivational qualities (IMO) but, fairly low marks for accurate info.

I'd defy any to make mudguards and a nosecone from the book

But there are zero measurements or any info. whatsover to help you make the nosecone other than the general procedure for GRP lay-up.

Unless I have some missing pages, but the numbers don't say so

Where did the dimensions come from for you make your nosecone? or is your's a one-off to your own design?

Just curious more than anything really, not picking a fight

made amould off a r/h nose cone, but got the idea from the book, brought a trailer m/guard cut it done the center welded 4inch strip in the middle, lead loaded it and made a mold off it. in the book my car is the front car in the picture of us all together at his house, if you look at the rear of my car you will see a very small car on the back (mine is the yellow/ black one) i made the 'buck' out of oasis ( used for holding flower arangments) it glues together and is very easy to shape into nose cone

There is a section on producing a 'wood and filler' plug, and making the mould from the plug, and another showing the dimensions (internal, external, front, rear and height and width) of the nose cone.

There's also a diagram and full list of dimensions for the one piece Tiger body - although it seems overly complex when you can brace the tubular chassis with sheet alloy or steel and fit individual cycle wings, nosecone and so on as is usual. I think I'll follow the latter route. As I said in a previous post, I’d sooner have a removable scuttle and individual panels for ease of repair.

Other chapters include fabrication of the IRS wishbones, rear hub carriers and remote gearchange mechanism, a pretty comprehensive wiring diagram and sections on bike engines and racing your Locost.

Worst bits? Constant plugs for Tiger products:

“…The alloy channel for the (windscreen) frame is difficult to bend without special equipment, so it’s probably easier to purchase one already bent from Tiger.”

But then what did I expect from a book written by the Tiger MD!

Also, the description of the chassis construction is extremely vague. (As is the part about the fuel tank.) An awful lot of dimensions and drawings, but no instructions – that's the best bit about Ron’s book IMHO. As Alan B says, it’s inspirational, and that’s what counts.

Well my front wings were moulded off a car begining with "W" (yes thats right "Wartburg") and I made the rear arches as shown on my website. I made my nosecone out of Ali, and if you need to ask, you can't do it, believe me!
