Why are they selling poppies, mummy?
Selling poppies in town today
The poppies, child are flowers of love
For the men who marched away
But, why have they chosen a poppy, mummy?
Why not a beautiful rose?
Because, my child, men fought and died
In the fields where the poppies grow
But why are the poppies so red, mummy?
Why are the poppies so red?
Red is the colour of blood, my child
The blood our soldiers shed
The heart of the poppy is black, mummy
Why does it have to be black?
Black, my child, is the symbol of grief
For the men who never came back
But, why mummy, are you crying so?
Your tears are giving you pain
My tears are my fears for you my child
For the world is forgetting again

Seriously though - thought provoking poem!
Nice one David.
It's nice to know that it's not just us old farts that appreciate the sacrifices that were made back then.
.... and they are still being made today and tomorrow .....
I had the privilage of being on an active RAF base this morning, being able to stand in silence with several thousand serving men and woman was quite
a moving experience!
I have so much respect for what they are doing!
When asked at school, Ojnr stood up to explain why they were all wearing poppies. We'd explained to him at the weekend.
He told the whole class: "because they don't put salt on the roads in Japan, you need to paint under cars that come from there. And as cars
from Japan don't have fog lights, you have to fit one of those too......oh, hang-on. That's wrong. Is it because Grandad Arthur died in a
war?"
He'd got a tiny bit mixed up. I'd explained why I needed to paint under my freshly imported Bongo and why I was fitting a fog light. His Mum
had explained about Grandad Arthur..............
If I was in charge I'd bring them all back now, you'd think we'd be able to learn from other people's mistakes by now.
Really annoyed when other people couldn't give a toss too
