Rubber strapping - where to find?
flibble - 1/12/09 at 10:39 PM

Having a mind blank at the moment so wondered if anyone had an idea where I could get:
Very long rubber straps, about 2 or 3 inches wide and 30+ft long (not particularly worried if its made up of 2 or 3 shorter lengths tied together), they must be a little elastic and quite durable.

I've used my set for work for years and they're just about ready to die, unfortunatly I got them passed down from the guy whom I did my apprenticeship with when he died a few years back.
I use them to hold large slabs of insulation or aluminium sheets to big chemical tanks so must have a bit of 'give' in them to slide things under, then snap back and hold a bit of weight while I screw/rivet the ally in place.
Can't seem to find anything on t' web as yet..
Cheers!
Kev

How about upholstery suppliers? They sell 2 inch wide strapping for seats.

couldn'y you us ratchet type straps instead ? as used by lorry drivers you can get them in different lengths and thickness.

flibble - 2/12/09 at 11:35 AM

Hmm, hadn't thought of upholstery suppliers, they sound lie the sort of people that may something good, cheers, I shall go look

Ratchet straps won't really work as theres no stretch in them to allow more sheets/slabs to be slid under them, you'd have to let the tension off completely and they'd all fall off
Cheers all, some options that I hadn't though of there!
