Hi all,
Completely off topic i know but just been to look at a petrol Corsa 1.2 with a mate.
Its done 40,000 and is in good nick.
However I am concerned that it sounds like a diesel when ticking over. Its fine when its moving.
Does this sound like a new timing chain??
if so is it expensive to fix?

They are very prone to valve gear problems.
The two main problems are the top end and hydraulic sludging & varnishing up due to not using a good fully synthetic 5w/30 oil and not changing it
frequently enough . Vauxhall now have set a special oil specification for Vauxhall/Opel & SAAB engines. It has been known for Wynn's
Hydrualic lifter treatment to quieten down noisy Corsa.
Also it is known for torx bolts to work loose in the valve gear easy fix if caught in time if not caught in time very expensive.
Probably hydraulic tappets, all my previous Vauxhalls had issues with them and they took ages to reach operating pressure, meaning that they rattled like a diesel. I was told by a mechanic that the earlier engines when they moved to hydraulic tappets were wearing out cams by just 30k miles.
What year is it? Later ones have trouble with the hydralic chain tensioner failing. If it is it'll be worst for a few seconds after stert up,
noisey at idle and quiet(er) at revs.
A lot of stuff to come off to do the job but not difficult.

Corsa are quite high on the avoid list right along side Lagunas ----- a Fiesta is much less likely to turn into a mini money pit.
Its an 04, but gonna give it a miss anyways.
