i have a dell inspiron 1010 netbook with hdmi output so plugged it into my tv turned the tv to the right channel but its not coming on do i have to do something on the netbook and if so how

sorted just have to click f1

Try pressing the "Fn" button along with "F8" this switches between the laptop screen and an external display.

This works on my inspiron 1520.

if you have windows 7 you can press windows key and p to get screen options up
