hi all, i am looking for a new tv for my bedroom. i want to play my xbox 360 on it, so manily gaming use.
but i have seen a couple of 42" tv, but one is plasma and the other one is lcd.
the plasama is lg, and is 600hz, but not full hd just hd read, and the lcd is toshiba and is fully hd, but only 50hz, so which one would be best for
gaming, the hig hz or the full hd?
thanks

However big is your bedroom to put a 42" tv in it!
The worst thing you can do is have one thats too big.
I would go for the full hd lcd over the plasma but try and get a 100hz one
I assume you mean 60hz and not 600.
Most games are 640p/720p anyway so full HD won't make much difference (it would on a PS3 for blu ray, but even with this there is only 1 or 2
games that are genuine 1080p).
Most games are just 640/720 and the hardware upscales to 1080.
Plasma should give a much better image quality, but it should have anti screen burn built in to prevent that occuring (I think most do, it just slowly
moves the picture a pixel or two around). I don't know if plasma burn is still a problem though.
Of course the biggie is the brand. Although many LCD pannels are made in the same plant (IIRC actually in an LG plant) , it the spec of the pannel
that matters.
I last bought a panasonic 26" LCD TV, side by side with a Sony at the time, the image quality was far superior. Does fine in out house.
As flack says an over large TV isn't too good.
We've got a 32" Sony LDC in the living room and that's big enough. I suggest look for the offers, if it's not pants and the offer's a good one take it (last year we paid about £400 for it, and that was half price. Could not get anything better for the money)
See if anyone you know has any of the tvs your intrested in and see what it would be like with your equipment at the distances you'll be using it at. 42 seems abit excessive for gaming in your bedroom, I've got a 37 in my living room and its still on the big side for gaming as far as my wires will take me from the screen.
hi all, thanks for the help, i am thinking maybe a smaller one. i will look in the sales.
and i do mean 600hz, it is new lg technoglgy.
thanks for the info about the games are not ture 1080p
cheers

600Hz on a plasma is not a comparable figure to the 50/100/200hz or whatever you might see for a LCD. Plasma and LCD are totally different
technologies. From what I've gathered (will also be buying a TV soon), only the very latest (expensive) LCDs are catching up to plasmas in terms
of motion quality which is most important for gaming imho. LCDs are also only just catching up on contrast and black levels too. So I'm looking
at a 42" Panasonic G10 or V10 plasma and will live with the higher power consumption and the fact it isn't as sexily thin as the latest
LCDs.
