How to avoid points on your license
Jasper - 3/3/10 at 12:57 PM

I've just been sent this, and have NO idea if it works or not, but maybe someone on here can try it next time they get done:

This is how the points get added to your licence:

If you get a fixed penalty notice through the post which also carries penalty points, the computer system first sends you a demand for the cash.

When you have paid, it then sends a demand to return your licence for endorsement.

It cannot handle the licence endorsement and the payment at the same time, And it cannot process the points part of the system until the financial section is complete.

If you overpay the fixed penalty, it must issue and send a refund cheque For the overpayment.

Therefore, overpay the fixed penalty by sending a cheque for the full amount Plus £1.

The computer will then automatically generate a refund cheque for the over-payment and send it to you.

**** Do not cash this refund cheque - DUMP IT.

The system then remains 'open' and cannot generate the 'send your licence For endorsement' demand part of the program.

It does, however, record your payment of the fixed penalty, so it does not trigger the 'follow-up unpaid fine' stage.

As there is no human intervention, the system will leave you alone, since It has got your money, which is the primary objective!

Worth a go I would have thought .....

This is an old one. Pretty sureit soesn't work.

I think I have heard something about this before maybe on fifth gear years back when that dull old Quentin was on the team and if i remember rightly they will pull you up on this for trying to avoid the system as overpaying is well known to them.

Sounds like a hoax email to me, if you look at this similar post HERE, it refers to doing the same thing with the American equivalent. Been doing the rounds since 1998 by all acounts?

cd.thomson - 3/3/10 at 01:05 PM

I've dodged a parking fine through fiddling the system once but thats all

blakep82 - 3/3/10 at 01:06 PM

hmm, interesting. it could work, but there must be some follow up. system must flag cases incomplete after a certain period of time.

example the mortgage systems at RBS, if theres info needed on your application, and its not sent in, then the system will flag it with the underwriter after a certian period of time. the same thing must happen here too

That's been going round so many times it makes me dizzy. I can't help but feel just perhaps one of the people in charge of speeding fines might have got it just once!!

mangogrooveworkshop - 3/3/10 at 01:15 PM

Simple just move out of Britain.

Never seen so many speed cameras on my tomtom at once.....ive got a big wide screen one and it was filled up when we recently went down to woking , farnbourgh and caterham.

I thought we had a few but you lads down south have it real bad....

Just remember the 11th commandment....

"Don't get caught"

iank - 3/3/10 at 01:44 PM

It might have worked once, just the kind of thing that gets screwed up by systems analysts and sloppy programmers. However it would have been easy to correct so I really doubt it still works even if it did.

But I don't see how they could punish you for overpaying and not cashing a refund cheque - that's not a crime as there's no reason the system couldn't issue any request for the license at the same time as the refund cheque is sent.

the sure fire way not to get points is to get a licence from another country outside the EU, then when they ask for licence send them the other licence, keep UK licence clean.

Ben_Copeland - 3/3/10 at 05:25 PM

The £1 refund thing DOESNT WORK !!!

AndyGT - 3/3/10 at 05:27 PM

or say that the PM was the passenger in a letter and send the fine money of course....

...worked for me!!!

American WEBSITE so may refer to American System

Tipster69 - 3/3/10 at 06:13 PM

Hi,

It is an American based site, but it claims it's an "urban legend " (and snopes is generally the place to look for that type of info).

Much of the wording seems the same as in the OP, doesn't sound convincing to me.

It is criminal to purposefully try and do something like that, You could well end up with a summons. If you could prove it was an honest mistake it wouldn't be illegal. That said its academic because, as said above, its false, they said so on 5th gear almost ten years ago and I doubt the government have change the system since then to make it work.

Doesn't work with speeding tickets because you send you licence with the payment, and some little git WRITES IT ON WITH BIRO!
