being tea total i am now a member of a minority group/protected species.
so anyone out there fancy an argument?

blakep82 - 8/3/10 at 12:43 PM

surely the best equality law would be to not have any at all?

MikeR - 8/3/10 at 12:47 PM

Oh For Flips Sake!

"But the guidance explains: “A belief need not include faith or worship of a god or gods, but must affect how a person lives their life or perceives the world.' "

So if you're a homophobic racist nazi loving gimp who goes around giving people kickings due to not matching their idea of 'right' you're protected!

Teatotal? does that mean not a drop of tea will pass your lips?

I agree.

The irony is that Vegans and atheists are likely to be the least tolerant of other groups. Or maybe I know a disproportionate number of militant vegan atheists.

Yes, of course meat is murder and wearing fur is just wrong; are your shoes leather by any chance?

jabbahutt - 8/3/10 at 01:31 PM

does that mean that believing a pinto is an decent enough engine for what my car I'll be protected from any anchor jokes from BEC owners

morcus - 8/3/10 at 01:32 PM

tomprescott - 8/3/10 at 04:10 PM

This is the typical crud spewed out by politicians - normal, decent, honest hardworking people get jobs when they leave school, the rest become politicians!

No, you're not allowed to discriminate against someone who does not share your world view. You can no longer discriminate against atheists or vegans or homophobic nazi loving gimps. neither can the homogimp discriminate against you.

You could claim that you are not discriminatory if you give everyone you meet a good kicking, no matter what they believe.

I have to say, I hadn't noticed there being an awful lot of discrimination against vegans or teetotallers, nor atheists really. I can't see why she's gone to the trouble of making this amendment to the law.

One of the comments made me laugh:

"Tough on meat-eating, tough on the causes of meat-eating."

Peteff - 8/3/10 at 06:18 PM

I don't mind anybody having a belief as long as they don't try to foist it on me, as for teetotal all the more for me

Badger_McLetcher - 8/3/10 at 06:20 PM

Does that mean when you're having a barbeque you have to give the vegetarians/vegans proper sausages? To not would be discrimination!

It means you don't invite them to start with on the grounds they'll be as boring as ****, those type of people always are

Ninehigh - 8/3/10 at 08:46 PM

Hmmm, we appear to have banned all funny forms of comedy...

iank - 8/3/10 at 09:40 PM

Think I'll wait to see what news sources other than the mail have to say, as they have a long track record of (let's be nice) exaggerating in order to sell to their core readership.
(EU banning bent bananas, hair-nets on trawlers etc).

Under the legislation, people with philosophical views such as pacificism and humanism could also seek protection from discrimination.

If pacifism and humanism is covered, then surely scepticism must be on the list

She really is a mad moo, can't help feeling she must be a "plant" from one of the other parties!
