sometimes! If they have air pockets its a bad idea (though that might have been a tumble drier, they popped).

Dont think your washer will be able to spin them though, too unbalanced.

My wife has done so, they do make a lot of noise though !!

yeah depends what ones they are though, for instance adidas superstars go a bit shrinked looking, air max classics are fine, as are most normal running trainers, I've done loads over the years.

You're supposed to put them in a pillowcase to stop the drum chaffing the leather/outer

I've also got Foot Locker Sneaker Cleaner which is amazing, smells like peroxide but it is really good.

As long as it fits through the door anything can be 'put in' a washing machine. Turning it on and washing it is a different matter.

I heard that you should put trainers inside a pillow case first and wash them like that. No idea why.... you need to ask a woman that one.

Our washing machine has a program for trainers, it washes them really cool. Put "washing trainers" in google and it tells you how to do them.

Done it loadsof times. Just put them in a pillow caseon a low temp was usually. My current machine even has a setting for "sports shoes".

I'd also put a couple of old towels in with them just to add a bit of cushioning for the machine!

My mum used to do mine, but when they came out she stuffed paper in them so they couldnt shrink.
Not sure if it did much, and they always came out feeling a bit stiff.

Nowadays I just have about 4 pairs on the go - Sunday Best, daily use, diy/garden/carwash etc, dirty car work.
I simply demote a pair every every 6-12 months and buy a new pair as they are cheap as chips in places like sports direct.

g/f from 20 years ago used to do it (i remember cause i almost wet myself when i suddenly heard this racket - she had the machine on a time delay!)

Got a program for them on my (Indesit) machine - 30deg, spin speed down to 600rpm, faily short and gentle wash cycle by the looks of it.

Try taking the kids out of them first

Wash them with towels to cushion the drum, on slow spin.
DO NOT wash them in a machine with plastic lifters (especially Indesit/Hotpoint, these break off anyway. For no reason!)
they may/will snap off

Mums - bless them! If that paper ever did anything, I'll... eat my trainers. Mum did mine a few times when i was young - came out amazingly clean but never quite felt the same. Maybe they were done too hot - maybe low temp is the key? Or maybe they just need some fabric softener in the wash, or some leather feed or whatever when they come out? I should imagine tumble dryer heat probably does the most damage. Hmmm tempted to wash some trainers now...
