Any of you bikers know how to strip down the front suspension forks on a mountain bike ? the bike is a cros between a mountain bike and a road bike Hybrid make is a Carrera Crossfire 1000. Which has a damaged bush. Eagerley await your expertise

if you consider that the forks are in essence a 2 piece affair the lower section and the upper section that slide in to the lower it is the bush that the upper section slides in sorry no pics. I was hoping that there was an easy way of parting the top and bottom section. The forks are to fit a 27" wheel which appear a little expensive to buy for the sake of a nylon bush

There are several ways that bike forks split. Some have a bolt in the bottom of the leg or a cir clip in the top under the dust seal, some have both and some have a bolt down from the top of the leg. Some of the cheap ones don't split and are throw away. Sorry I can't be more help but there are so many different types.

If they are a cheap "Non branded" fork then taking them appart will probs make things worse... A lot of the cheap forks are not designed to be serviced..

You'd be better spending £50-£60 on a pair of second hand "branded" forks instead...

cheers currently looking on ebay but not sure which ones will fit as apparently there are 2 types of head sets Im a bit old school on bike ie the grifter and chopper era

any help or guidance toward suitable forks appreciated the guy at Halfords said there where 2 different type of fork aroung but wasnt clear what he meant. The head set on this doesn't look look like the older bikes with the long bolt down the centre. Hope this makes sense

replace it or get a new bike. cheap bikes are not made to last. I've had a lot of experience thrashing bikes, and it just won't be worth putting money into it. If you must repair it, take it to a reputable shop and they will do it for not much plus parts.
