hi all.

2 questions today, number one is how long do points stay on your license? is it 3 years? and number 2, if you send a speeding ticket back saying a willing 3rd party was driving, do they get checked for insurance?

Don't know about insurance but from recent experience I know that the points remain valid for 3 years but you can't have them removed for 4 years.......go figure!

IFAIK - I believe it is 3 years unless it is Drink/Driving in which case it's 10 years.

As for point two - hmm...

Endorsments stay on your licence for 4 years . But cannot be used against you in a court of law after three years.
If the conviction was for offences relating to driving under the influence of drink/drugs, and or death by careless driving ,then it is 11 years from date of conviction.
As for your Insurance question this is not cross checked.Because, If for example this third party who was taking these points for you was a mate,Then theres a good chance he is going to have is own fully comp Insurance which would then legally entitle him to drive your car third party.So for the police the to check all eventualitys would be a logistical nightmare.
This would be normal procedure for minor convictions, But not for very serious offences.

But being fully comp doesn't necessarily entitle you to drive another person's car, does it?

not always, but usually i think. 3rd party on any vehicle that is not your own.

ive already got 6 points, three years is up next march, however its a bit dodgy having 9 til then. if its 4 years to lose them im gutted, cant have 9 points for 20 months! gonna have to find some volunteers!

You would almost certainly be covered to drive any other car third-party only.

One other item that most people seem to forget, is that now, you have to pay to have the points removed when they are expired. You pay to put them on & you pay to take them off. B*ST*RDS

Most insurane companies seem to ask about points within the last 5 years judging from quotes I have tried to get this week.

You normally get this free when you are over 25. This stops a 17 year old buying a fast motor, getting his/her mum to get the insurance while he/she gets insured fully comp on a clapped out banger, then drive the fast motor legially and scrap the banger
