BBQ gas bottle question (rental etc)
Andybarbet - 11/6/11 at 10:08 AM

Ok, we have just purchased a nice gas bbq, i have a question about the gas bottles.

I have been given an empty one so can i just go to any local gas bottle supplier & swap it for a full one (+ some money obviously) or do i have to have some sort of bottle rental contract with a specific shop to be able to swap an empty for a full ??

If i can sort it today & the weather holds out we can cook in the garden tonight

Also - any recommendations for large DIY stores that might stock gas bottles ? ie. homebase or wickes etc ?

Cheers Andy

I think it has to be swapped brand for brand (calor bottle to a calor gas supplier, flogas to flogas supplier etc)

If you have the bottle you won't need a contract/deposit. I get calor bottles at local builders yard, 2 minute process, give old bottle + money, get new full bottle ^_^

Yeah, if you have a bottle already, you can swap it no problem. Usually best to get it is your local petrol station. As long as its the same co. you are swapping it for you can actually upgrade or downgrade the size of the bottle you require.

Cheers guys, looks like im off to hunt the local petrol stations for a replacement then

DIY chain stores usually do them as well.

If you get a different bottle make sure the regulator is the same, my local gas supplier has changed suppliers 3 times over the last 5 years, each time the regulator is different, nothing worse than getting your burgers lined up to find your bottle doesnt fit !!

There is no such thing as a 'Gas BBQ', its an outdoor grill.

I managed to get one from my local garden centre, swapped it for a smaller empty bottle i had that was a totally different shape, it saved me £30 bottle rental charge

Whoops, i forgot, Doctor derek, i have to correct you for trying to correct me as im only going by what 'Outback' say, the box says its an 'Outback' gas bbq, the instructions say its a gas bbq & if you go to their UK website it says its a gas bbq:

I did go out to buy a gas bbq & if i have been sold an outdoor grill i might be able to do them with trade descriptions ??

Only thing is, its exactly what we wanted, it has a gas burner, lava rock & a bit to cook your food on.........mmm tasty !!
