just found out that Bob Pease is dead

If you are in the elecronics game, the name should be familiar to you ..... although he does look like Seasick Steve, or is it the other way round?

I remember him writing about why he did not have a modern car but a simple-to-maintain air cooled VW Beetle ... and perhaps ironically Pease was killed in the crash of his 1969 Volkswagen Beetle, on 18 June 2011

Even more ironically he was killed whilst driving home from a memorial service for his colleague Jim Williams, another well regarded analog engineer who worked for Linear Technology. Two great people who made big contributions to the industry for many years both gone within a few weeks, very sad.

I've heard his name before, don't suppose he had anything to do with Arpanet?
