1999 era R6?

Anybody owned one of these?

Im thinking of changing my vtr1000 to an R6, a little different i know but i fancy a change allthough i do enjoy setting off car alarms with the race pipes on

Just wondered if there is anything i should look out for?

And what are they like for the taller gent? Im 6'4" and like the firestorm because its quite long i fit well but have not sat on an R6.

Is there anybody close to southampton i could come and have a sit on one

just look out for noisey cam chain tenstior and 2nd gear can jump out when you give it a hand full any gear problems it will need a new box
i have a mate that was 6'2 and he got on fine on a r6

I'd try and look for some midrange

I think you will find its like sitting on a toy bike after the firestorm, not that that's a bad thing as you can climb all over it for the bends and they are plenty fast enough

I know im going to miss alot of the torque, my firestorm is great for low to midrange and top but i (think) want something that i can chuck about a bit more and give me a bit more front end feel.

I love the vtr1000 for its power delivery and the NOISE but there are a few nice roads out in the new forest where a better front end would be nice to have

Also i have had a look at a zx7r ninja a couple of days ago and fitted that well but it felt like a very dated bike even though it was 2 years newer than my vtr

What about getting a sp1? It has no relation at all to your vtr and will give you the feeling you're after.

I want to try something different.

My first bike was a bandit 600 and then the vtr and now i want something different.
So no sp1 or sp2, want an inline 4 rather than a v twin allthough i did find a rather nice ducati

But there is no way i could afford this wicked machine

Ducati 848 evo stealth

I found the best fit of my pie sized 6'3" frame was the J1+J2 ZX6R

I liked the bike but after a 1000cc the lack of torque was hard to live with.

Put a Fireblade front on your Storm, brakes and all to improve the handling. It's a popular mod and almost a straight swap if you get the right model forks.

The R6 has traditionally been the most extreme 600 sports bike for road use in terms of riding position and very peaky power delivery. Coming from a VTR I think it will be a pretty big culture shock - I hope your wrists and back are in good health

If I wanted an IL4 sports bike, I'd be looking at as new a GSX-R750 as I could afford. Far more road friendly and extremely quick.

I had a 2000 R6 for about a year and a half, once you got used to the riding position is wasn't that uncomfy I once did 450 miles in a day and was still able to walk! I'd ride one before you buy though, I think they are very love hate. Neither of the two guys I used to ride with liked riding it and some of the mags gave it bad reviews. Once I set the suspension for my weight I loved it, very light and flickable. However if I was going to buy another bike of around the same age i'd be looking at a k3 gsxr 600.
