This morning I was looking round town for a new mesh filter for my cafetiere - one of those things that you put the coffee in, then hot water, and a
little while later you push the plunger down and pour out nice coffee (I'm a coffee-holic). It's a disc of stainless steel mesh with a bit
of reinforcement stamped into the middle - probably 10p's worth of materials and 20p's worth of manufacturing effort. Add some profit and
what do you get in the shops? £3.50!
Did some more searching and found that most wholesale outlets charge between 75p and £1 - but they usually have a steep P&P charge (typically £5
or £6).
So I says to myself - I'll take a look on ebay... and their price is? £4.50! Mind you, the postage is free - at that price, it needs to be...
we all know what they can do with those...
Later on, I was looking for cheap and cheerful stick-on analogue clocks for the Locost - the sort people use on bikes - found good Motrax ones for
£25, similar Oxford ones for a similar price. On ebay? Around £40.
What are those people smoking?! It must be good stuff!

It's something that occurred to me on Sunday - I was out doing a random tour of Suffolk, with the aim of returning to my local by 12:00...
unfortunately my wristwatch battery had died the day before so I only had an old pocket-watch - which was in my pocket (duh!) so was
'unavailable'.
It's not a big item on my want list - I was just looking for something cheap, cheerful and not too ugly. I can live without one (especially at
ebay prices!).

I have got to the stage where I won't drink instant anymore because I have become such a snob about it! My 1 cup cafetiere is the most used
piece of equipment in our kitchen bar the kettle! It is a plastic 'bodum' one my other half nicked from a hotel she stayed in on business a
couple of years ago and it is still going strong.
Can't beat a cup of 'proper' coffee and I won't leave the house in the morning without one, much to my other halfs annoyance!
One bonus from today - when I went into out local Whittards I didn't come out with a mesh - but I did buy a packet of chocolate-covered coffee
beans! They are very odd, but addictive.
Whenever I've given them to other people they usually say "urgh - that's horrible... can I have another one?".
Can't eat too many in one go, as my ears start singing and I get light-headed...

I think some sellers play on the fact many folk will just assume ebay is the cheapest so it's the first place they look & for low value stuff like this they look no further & pay up!
we fitted a £1500 miele coffee machine for some bloke last week. Apparently, it can be linked to the warming drawer below to preheat your cups before
you come down in the morning! You have to be either stinking rich or a real coffee addict to pay that much! Mind you, it would look nice paired
with a beer dispenser in the next unit

Have you tried Kenko Millicano? It's a "wholebean instant coffee" and it's the closest instant to fresh brewed coffee I have tasted. Bit expensive, but I'm too impatient to use a cafetiere.
A company I worked for a while back had a commercial-grade Gaggia espresso coffee machine in the office... cost around £5000! Not to mention the big
tubs of Illy coffee we used to get through each month. All for approx 25 people...
Gorgeous coffee, but it's a wonder that someone didn't end up scalded - they're scary machines if you get the nozzles wrong...
