Hi fitted the distributor but as its electronic you don't have points to check if rotor is pointing correctly I thought if I fitted the distributor cap and checked for continuity from the high tension input on the cap to number 1 plug lead output on the cap it would tell me if the rotor is in firing position is this correct or am I totally wrong and could this damage the distributor any ideas would be very helpful. No as there is a spark gap, so you will see no continuity.

Pop it in, make sure the rotor arm is pointing in the right direction for no1 lead and nip up, you now need a strobe light to time.

You should find it starts when in the vicinity, if overly advanced then the starter motor will stall so just tweak left and right until it fires, then set up with the light.

If you get absolutely nothing or occasional spitting back then you probally have the leads 180degrees out.
