Glasgow to Leeds traffic on friday evenings?
eznfrank - 9/8/11 at 09:56 AM

I need to go to Glasgow for work this afternoon and will be coming back friday afternoon, all very last minute and tried to book trains but no seats available. Might drive instead but just wondered what traffic is usualyl like on that route on a friday afternoon - busy??

Any advice greatly appreciated.

there is a google function that allows you to look at the journey time at a specific point. What I would say is that it depends where in Glasgow, and exactly what time you plan to leave.

Sorry to not be more help,..

I assume your thinking M74-M6 > M62 ? (rather than M8 > A1)

yeah, that's the route Google suggests.

howardB - i've not seen that function but will have a look. I'll be leaving Glasgow city centre at 2, and I'd like to be home for 6 :-?

can't think of ever driving down that way and every really being jammed up. you might find that some areas just south of glasgow, you'll be at about 50mph instead of 70, but once past Larkhall and lanark, you'll be alright. never seen it busy between there and carlisle
should be easy enough

once you get past Douglas, you'll be fine.
It's two lanes between Douglas and Hamilton.
It's pretty much never busy south of Douglas.

14:00 to 18:00 should be easy without accidents or holdups, I used to do Renfrew to doncaster in something near 4 hours without speeding,... :-)

Just keep an ear out for traffic issues, the M74 is often empty, and a great drive, keep an eye out for the safety camera vans sat on the bridges too,....

hth

ps google - option traffic - current or at chosen time of day

Cheers guys, was a fairly straightforward drive up apart from a big stretch of average speed roadworks on the a1. Just hope it's as smooth on the way back down.
