Anyone know about Compound Mitre Saws?
GRRR - 20/8/11 at 04:45 PM

Looking to buy a mitre saw for skirting, upstands, architrave etc and like the look of a sliding version for more capacity, and the Rage ones do steel with the same blade for Locost-chassis-based fun and games, but the Makita non-sliding one also looks excellent value and the reviews are great.

Anyone have any thoughts on the ones below? Screwfix currently have an offer on the Rage, so both are similarly priced.

Rage 3-S

Makita MLS100

B&Q whorehouses used to do a good range at good prices but theyve cut down big style on models available and prices have crept up a bit.
Had one of there own brand ones for sometime and its been used big time with no let downs.
Cheers,
Bob

I use a rage 3 for my manifolds. The standard clamps and fence arrangement weren't much good (though prob fine for woodwork) so I made my own specifically for tubing. Aside from that its great, the blade can be sharpened too so longer life there.

I'd go for a tct type simply cos of the versatility.

If you are going to buy a miter saw, make sure its a good one......As a joiner I would go with a Makita one.Dont buy a cheap one as they dont cut right.Hope that helps.

Another voye here for the Rage, had mine a couple of years now and it's been good.
Used it for alsorts, logs for firewood, skirting, construction timber and 75x75x6mm steel
box section when I built a new rear cross member for the 90.
Only on negative, the shrapnel when cutting steel is bl**dy hot

Cool so votes for both but mainly the Rage. It is tempting given my intentions to by cutting lots of metal soon too.

Cheers for the opinions!
