So for years I have been in denial, always buying a basic phone for texting and calling on. However I have now got to the point where I could do with my outlook calendar in my pocket so I can see what I have comming up and also make changes etc on the fly.

Also access emails via Wifi.


I really like the look of the Galaxy S2 but its waaay expensive!


Can anyone suggest a phone that will talk with outlook without douzens of translation apps, plus display the info in a clear logical way? (oh, and prefferably cheap like a budgie!)

HTC Desire S or the Galaxy S - why is it dear? it should be free on most monthly contracts or are you PAYG?

I am on PAYG at the moment.... 25p/min call and 4p per text. For the amount of calling/texting I do, i cant justify a contract. (About £10 max month spend currently)

Not heard good things about the galaxy S/s2 and outlook calendar! IE, events not syncing properly

I have always been a HTC guy, but had trouble getting outlook to play with it.

Got a work iphone and am amazed how well it plays with outlook,

I have an HTC Desire S and use it for work email and calendars (done through HTC mail) and not had any problem. I prefer HTC I think, but have only played with the Samsung for a bit.

I also have an iphone 4 through work and that has lots of little bits that niggle me having had an HTC (can only have one email signature, can't drag and drop files, no widgets for the front screen etc etc).

For me it would be HTC at the mo.

Smarthpones are more than something to make a call on, that's for sure.

My land line is down right now, BT predict a fix by Thursday 5.00pm.

In the meantime my Nokia 5800 ( beginning to age, admittedly) is giving me wifi via wireless tethering.
That's not bad all.

you should find out what the data will cost you before sticking with PAYG, it might be worth moving to a monthly contract - thus free phone (its not free but you know what i mean)

I dont intend to use any data.... Just wifi. I am in hotspots most of the time.

A galaxy S2 is approx £30/month on an 18 month contract. Thats £540..... In that same period I expect to spend less than £150 on PAYG credit. So I dont think £400 for the hardware is really a good price given what else you can buy (computing wise) for £400.....

hmmmm Maybe a small netbook would make more financial sense, just not quite as easy to pop out and check diary etc.

Orange San Fransico running android unlocked for free and stick in a Giff Gaff payg sim you can transfer your number and with £10 a month you get unlimited internet unlimited texts and 250mins. Been using this myself for 3 months now works really well. Orange San Fransico Giff Gaff

HTC mini HD? Uses windows 6.1 software so syncs smoothly with outlook (and more) and if you run a mailserver you can access all emails instantainously with no extra software/hardware.
I paid £100 for mine from ebay (brand new, was an unwanted upgrade)
Nice size, so you dont look a plank with a massive tablet in you hand/pocket (like iphone/desire etc), but big enough to see things well.
Has a good battery life for a smart phone too, (3 days with good use, 5ish with minimal)

The Samsung Galaxy Ace is available for <£200 (there is a new one on eBay for £150).

I bought a Samsung Galaxy Mini for £99.99 on Orange as my old phone had conked and I wanted to catch up with the 21st century. I don't use it a lot but it came with 250mb of web access and you can buy that for £5 when it runs out but at home it runs on the wifi. The Sydney from Orange is not android or 3g but it will run wifi and is only £40 + £10 top up

i have the htc mini hd as a work phone, very good, but i use a teh battery up 1.5 times a day

but i am the internet, texting and chatting a lot

but it is a good phone with windows on

I have a San Francisco. It runs Android. I had to pay a couple of quid for gsyncit, but it syncs google calendar with outlook with no problems.

I have a Galaxy S2 but I dont think its the best for you. Far too many gadgets for what you need.

I would consider picking up a cheap second hand Iphone 3G.

I am a bit of an apple hater but I have a 3GS as a work phone. Its faultless with outlook. My whole company booking and email system runs with outlook and it never gets confused and is great at getting all the details right. updates fast and gives all then needed info.

Only fault is that the reminder volume and tone is crap so you have to keep checking it (or your watch).

Other than that, all good.
